Abstract
Phytochemical and pharmacological investigation was carried out on the seeds of Cassia fistula Linn plant for anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant activity in mice. The hydro-alcoholic extract of seeds of Cassia fistula (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) was studied for its anticonvulsant effect on maximal electroshock-induced seizures and muscle relaxant activity at the dose level using rota rod and traction test in mice. Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed presence of saponin, carbohydrate, glycosides, flavonoids, tannin and phenolic compounds.
