This article discusses the life and works of an English writer Sid Chaplin, known with great novels about a young working-class lad growing up in an industrial heartland. There is also illustrated the hard protagonist's lifetime, his embarking on a slippery journey into adulthood, all the while searching for a moral compass in an
increasingly prosperous but also uncertain world.
