CALCULATION OF LOADING PARAMETERS IN FUNCTION OF REQUIRED FORKLIFT SELECTION

Abstract
Forklifts are vehicles with forks which allow manipulation of cargo, its transportation, loading and unloading. We find them in transport hubs such as ports, warehouses, etc. where they are used for cargo handling and storage. It is very important in transport technology to know transshipment time in order to determine the output that serves in the evaluation of economic viability of a product or service. Therefore, in this paper the calculation of theoretical duration of transshipment using forklifts is discussed. In addition, the calculation of the number of forklifts used in transshipment activities is given in order to reduce transshipment time. The calculation of engine power needed to transfer cargo is also given as well as the calculation of the consumption of energy required. The latter has been provided through a comparison between the consumption of electric, diesel and petrol fuels. The use of calculations presented in this paper can help improve transshipment technology and the selection of forklifts.
