Abstract

The article presents the novel “Return to Panjrud” by modern prose writer Andrei Volos. In particular, we are talking about the features of the genre of novel, the fate of the main character - the Persian and Tajik poet Jafar Rudaki, a historical and cultural background of the text - the medieval life of Maverannahr, a historical region of Central Asia. The timeless problems that worried both Rudaki and his entourage are outlined. Using the materials of ancient manuscripts, myths and legends, in his Russian novel Andrei Volos managed to recreate a biography of the great non-Russian poet, who, before the release of this novel, in fact, had no complete biography, it remained scattered through centuries. Thus, the modern writer has built a bridge not only in time, but also between different cultures.
