Abstract
Innovation ecosystems are created and developed in a localized space, where material, production, information and labor resources are already concentrated, allowing development and use of innovative solutions. Each sector of the economy has characteristic features and types of innovation activity.
In the paper, sectors of the economy are conditionally divided into four types according to the dominant sources of innovation (scientific, engineering, consumer and type of efficiency), and kinds of innovative activity (technological and non-technological innovations). The compilation and analysis of the rating of the types of economic activities of the Pridneprovsky economic region in terms of the intensity and effectiveness of development allow to make the following observations. By types of innovations, efficiency-oriented industries (metallurgical industry) are developing more intensively and effectively. In this sectors innovation in production processes, supply systems can reduce costs with maintaining and improving the quality and environmental friendliness of products, and the costs of innovation are carried out in the direction of purchasing new technologies, machinery and equipment. Activities in which innovations are determined by engineering developments and scientific research, and enterprises develop and implement technological product innovations − mechanical engineering and professional scientific activities − are at the end of the rating of industries in terms of intensity and effectiveness. To enhance the development of such activities, the innovation ecosystem should provide conditions for research and development, the formation and development of networks concentrating research centers and high-tech industrial production; professional training; reliable protection of intellectual property; developed industrial clusters; gaining wide access to global sources of technology, knowledge and highly qualified engineering and technical personnel.
