The article discusses ideas about North Africa in travel notes of Russian travelers of the late XIX - early XX century, analyzes the main themes and plots of the notes. At the designated time, Russian travelers visited such African countries as Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, where they noted the decline of Arab culture and the planting of Western European ideals by colonists.
