Abstract

Food is always important for a healthy life but a healthy child is always dependent on maternal nutrition so the root cause of child malnutrition is the state of maternal nutrition which means if a mother is malnourished her baby will automatically become malnourished. The threat of malnutrition begins in the womb and continues throughout the life cycle. Nowadays malnutrition has emerged as a huge problem in South Asian region which is affecting females and children at higher rates (Anwar, 2014). The number of malnourished children under the age of 5 in the developing countries are more than 150 million and half of these children are found in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan (Atif.R, 2004) while in Pakistan 50% of children fewer than five are stunted, 40% are under weight, and 9% are wasted (Anwar A, 2014).
