Abstract
The paper presents numerical results of self-propulsion performance based on the unsteady RANSE method. The Body Force Propeller approach of the virtual Disk model is utilized to illustrate the effect of the propeller on the ship. The dynamic sinkage and trim of the vessel were considered. The free surface effects were taken in to account by applying the volume of fluid method (VOF) for multi-phase flows. The self-propulsion point was obtained by performing two runs at a constant speed with different propeller revolutions. The case study used to verify and validate was the well-known benchmark Japan Bulk Carrier (JBC) ship model.
