Abstract

This study focuses on the transfer of value in TRT's cartoons for children. Value is a set of verbal rules that are not based on writing between individuals who make up society.Values that are the sum of verbal rules are first learned through family, environment, schools and mass media.Although schools are seen as the only way of socialization in the education of values, the family, peer group, mass media and non-governmental organizations are the sources that feed the values education.Cartoons are able to do the function of many educational institutions alone. Besides, cartoons are the most preferred entertainment way for children. According to the researches, the age of the cartoon watching period is 5-11 years of age. Therefore, researches for this age group gain importance. TRT Çocuk was launched on November 1, 2008, with the aim of being the first and only local child-themed television channel which broadcasts for children. In this study, it is aimed to examine 2 cartoons which are shown on television in the broadcast period of 2015-2016 and continue to broadcast in TRT Çocuk Channel based on the values in Turkish Language Teaching Programme. Research is a case study of qualitative research methods. It was used as a code and theme from the gains related to the value transfer in the curriculums. Content analysis was made with the checklist based on code and themes. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that cartoons were rich in values. However, there were also scenes with negative behaviour. Turkish vocabularies are not sufficiently given in cartoons.
