Abstract
This study deals with the page layout and lineing in ancient Islamic manuscripts, since it takes a great sacred importance for Muslims and is the main source of our knowledge of the beginning of the development of the design foundations of early Islamic manuscripts, and it aimes to identify the mechanisms of lineing and the page layout in the design of Islamic manuscripts, and the design principles followed by transcribers in producing page layout and lineing them, as well as monitoring the aesthetics of Islamic manuscripts and the rules of graphic design followed by the transcribers in choosing the number and size of lines and margins within each manuscript. In this study, the researcher uses the descriptive analytical method, and it is importat in that it deals with the innovative rules used by the transcribers in their design formulations, which is not separated from the cultural heritage and Islamic art. It also highlights the formulations value of the body and space in the design process, and its role in directing the page layout and methods of lineing in Islamic manuscripts. This study can benefit artists, designers and critics in the arts and design schools and faculties, as well as specialists in the study of arts and Islamic studies. The study came out with the most important results: The process of directing the page layout and its lineing and margins are placed within fixed design frameworks that contribute to the development of a graphic design theory for lineing used to this day, as the lineing of the religious manuscripts as a constructive and formulations process of all these elements, in order to configure the design of the Islamic manuscript
