Abstract
Objective: Odontectomy is a process of extracting the wisdom tooth from alveolar process which can damage tissues, whether it is soft or hard tissue. Aloe Vera well known as medicinal plants in variety of culture. Research shows that Aloe Vera extract have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and analgesic properties which make it one of the options for post odontectomy treatment. This research intended to find out the effectivity of 90% Aloe Vera gel extract towards the time of healing on post tooth extraction. Materials and Methods: This research is a non-laboratory experimental research which examines the effectiveness of using 90% Aloe Vera gel extract in post-odontectomy wounds. Wound healing score is assessed clinically on the first, third and seventh day after odontectomy by observing signs of inflammation. Each sign of inflammation will be given a score of 0, 1, 2 or 3 based on clinical observations made by researcher using the Gingival Index score. Results: Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze the data. The result of this study is there is a difference in wound healing time of post-odontectomy wounds when applied with 90% Aloe Vera gel extract and those not applied. The average Gingival Index score in the observed control group was 1.50 with a standard deviation of 0.504 (1.50 ± 0.504). The average observed in the treatment group was 1.65 with a standard deviation of 1.147 (1.65 ± 1.147). Conclusion: Aloe Vera gel extract 90% is effective to accelerate the healing time and inflammation of wounds after odontectomy
