Abstract
This paper emphasises the significance of digital image processing as a solution to various security threats in Nigeria. In recent times, the rate of crime in Nigeria is continuously on the upsurge, ranging from theft to robbery to kidnapping and recently to the feared insurgent group from the north known as the boko haram. These crimes amongst others present an impediment to the growth, development and existence of the country as it continuously threatens the unity of the nation. In the light of this, the government has come up with the introduction of d closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras which is a form of digital image processing system in public places to monitor and record images of what is taking place in specific locations. This paper explores the various forms of security threats, the importance and significance of Digital image processing system as a panacea to those threats.
