Abstract
Open innovation is a progressive process with rising number of literature studies for large companies in Europe as well as in the Western world. Despite of its broad definition, the open innovation theory still has a range of unresolved problems. This is a conceptual paper undertakes to study the adoption of open innovation model in Malaysian start-ups. This paper is intended to review current publications and establish a conceptual structure for a relationship between open innovation procedures, start-up characteristics and firm results. The research questions and objectives of the study along with hypotheses and concludes with the need of research and the contribution that will be made from this study to the world of academia.
