PERSONALITY TRAITS OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract
Background: In the Indian environment, no efforts were made by the parents or by the school (teacher as well as the administrative body) in understanding individual child behaviour and their personality. Minimal efforts were made in understanding what the individuals personality type a particular child possess. So to examine the relationship and impact of the student's personality traits and its impact on the academic achievement this research is being carried out on the senior secondary school students of Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Methods: A sample of 200 students were considered for survey but only 180 received questionnaire were fully filled. So 180 is the final sample size. Simple random sampling method was used to select 11th and 12th class students. Their last examinatio result was taken as basis for academic achievement. Results: Most of students were male and maximum of the students preferred science stream. Male and female students differ significantly over various personality traits. Reasoning, Emotional stability, Self- reliance and tough mindedness are the most dominant personality traits amongst the students. There is significant relationship between personality traits and academic achievement.
