Journal: Ukrainian Biographistics = Biographistica Ukrainica (Vol.18, No. 18)Publication Date: 2019-12-18
Abstract
Ukrainian memoirs are the nationally-centric component of Ukrainian culture that coopted specific nature of all historical epochs and the fullest and emotionally saturated subjective presentation of national history. As practice shows, at present there is no unified bibliographic index / catalogue of memoirs in Ukraine permitting to understand full scale of this phenomenon and to provide the unique content-full information and communication resource for education, science, culture and state asa whole. Creation of the complete bibliography of Ukrainian memoirs will promote their more efficient introduction into scientific and cultural-educational discourse. It should be noted that in Ukraine there were attempts to prepare and publish the bibliographic indices of memoirs, but they were isolated and non-systematic. Nowadays the work over compilation of the complete bibliography of Ukrainian memoirs requires coordination of efforts around this idea of the leading Ukrainian libraries (national, branch, educational), experienced bibliographers and public initiative. The principles of materials systematization and selection belong to the main scientific and methodological principles of creating Ukrainian memoirs. In our opinion, systematization of memoirs in chronological order permits tracing the evolution of Ukrainian memoirs most efficiently. The subject of bibliographing should be memoirs(of all genres) published in Ukraine (throughout the whole its territory) in all languages since ancient times to this day and the Ukrainica – memoirs of Ukrainian public figures published abroad and of public figures from Ukrainian diaspora. Besides, in terms of modern informational society this work should be done in parallel with formation of the ramified database and electronic library (or separate Internetresource) that should include the extended abstract, content and full text of memoirs.
