Abstract
In the present, human technology, including noise barrier and Emission Gas Recirculation (EGR) reduce NOx concentration. Nevertheless, the human technology has a tendency to depreciate efficiency over time and add other air pollutant. The benefits of plants in roadside have been shown to reduce air pollution levels, decrease temperature around the area, control surface water runoff (Isaifan and Baldauf 2020), and decrease noise pollution. Especially, improving air quality by decrease air pollution that emitted from traffic. Air pollution is almost emitted from vehicle include oxide of nitrogen (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) which effects to human health and vegetation. Plants remove air pollution by uptake via leaf stomata and by photochemical reaction. This paper reports the study on Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOCs) emission characterization from Wrightia religiose and Gardenia jasminoides at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. BVOCs are a plant's defense system protecting a plant from abiotic stresses. They also play an important role in atmospheric chemistry due to their high reactivity, reacting photochemically with NOx in the presence of solar radiation forming tropospheric ozone (O3) and secondary organic aerosol (SOA). Controlled chamber experiments were performed from 30 October 2018 to 2 November 2018 using Gas Chromatography Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID). It was found G. jasminoides emits average β-pinene concentrations of 0.15±0.10 µg·m -3 and W. religiose was 0.10±0.07 µg·m -3 . Average isoprene concentrations of G. jasminoides was 0.24±0.15 µg·m -3 and W. religiose was 0.11±0.07 µg·m -3 . Emission β-pinene and isoprene of G. jasminoides and W. religiose are low concentration in noon due to a photochemical reaction bring decrease NOx concentration and high air temperature. So, urban plant management considering meteorology, it is effective to emission isoprene of plants and plant character influence to delay time of photochemical reaction. Urban plant management should be planted vegetation between road and residence for decrease NOx concentration from vehicle. Also, decrease effect of air pollutant on human health.
