A FUZZY TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL METHOD FOR A SINGLE INTERSECTION UNDER MIXED TRAFFIC CONDITIONS

Abstract
Recently major cities of Vietnam have been facing many problems raising from traffic congestion. The main reason is that almost intersections are operated with the pre-timed signal plan which is no longer suitable for intersections with high fluctuations of traffic demand. In this study, we present a fuzzy traffic signal control method for a single intersection under mixed traffic conditions. Duration of a green signal phase is adjusted based on the fuzzy logic. A typical intersection in Hanoi is selected to test feasibility and effectiveness of the method with VISSIM-PYTHON simulation-based evaluation through average delay. The results show that the average delay of proposed method is remarkably reduced in comparison with the existing one.
