Abstract
This study performed structural analysis of a yaw gear train housing and carriers, and stability evaluation of planetary gears and bearings to evaluate the stability of a yaw gear train for a 4MW-class wind turbine under load duration distribution (LDD). The structural analysis of the yaw gear train housing and carriers showed that the minimum safety factor of housings and barriers was 1.7. Strength analysis revealed that the planetary gear system satisfied minimum safety factors of 1.15 for bending and 1.0 for contact as presented in DNV-GL guidelines. Fatigue life analysis of bearings found that bearings satisfied the operating time under LDD provided in the purchase specifications.
