Abstract
Mobile learning devices are becoming more trending in school students' life today. Therefore, the development of appropriate interfaces for mobile learning application is crucial to attract school students to use mobile learning application and further encourage students to explore the learning materials. However, many of the previous studies mostly focused on web-based learning platform and using objective measurement. To date, most of learning application had shifted from web platform to mobile platform and objective to subjective experience such as preference. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the aesthetically of mobile interfaces by subjective judgment, which is based on the experts' opinions. This study adopted a quantitative research approach involving a data-gathering survey. Fifteen (15) learning interfaces were designed based on nine (9) design principles which are balance, proportion, simplicity, alignment, movement, hierarchy, consistency, contrast, and proximity. The results of this study revealed that balance is the most important design principles in order to produce aesthetic interfaces for mobile learning application. Meanwhile, design principles balance, proportion and contrast the design principles that contribute to the nonaesthetic interfaces for mobile learning application. In conclusion, this study's findings could contribute to the knowledge in the HCI sector. It could also help guide future research in the area of aesthetic mobile design interface by user preference based on principle design for mobile learning applications in particular in user interface design
