Abstract
Power System Stability is of paramount importance in this age of rapid globalization when the entire world depends on a constant uninterrupted flow of electricity. Generators in a system are installed with voltage regulators to keep the terminal voltages of the machines in constant automatic control. Such control actions by the regulators are said to have negative impact on the dynamic stability of the system. To achieve better system stability and improved performance it is seen that an integrated controller consisting of AVR and Conventional PSS (CPSS) is ideal. It is not feasible to have stabilizers at each machine hence having one at a location which satisfies all the requirements is beneficial. The aim of this project is to determine the most economical and optimal location of the power system stabilizer for the multi machine system thereby, aiding in improving the system stability and damp the harmful low frequency inter area oscillations. This paper investigates the test system in depth by conducting Load Flow Analysis, Small Signal Stability Analysis and Fault Analysis. The results are validated extensively for 3 Machine 9 Bus and the promising simulation results obtained are presented.
