Abstract
Fault currents play a major role in the power systems. Incorporation of DG in the power system network affects the short circuit currents which in turn causes protection coordination failure between relays and circuit breakers. Fault current limiter is a device frequently used to reduce the level of short circuit current provided DG should be properly placed and FCL should be properly sized. In this paper Thyristor controlled Impedance fault current limiter (TCI-FCL) is used. It can be resistive, inductive or combination of both. The problem is formulated as both DG placement and FCL sizing is considered as objective and is adopted by using Crow search algorithm (CSA) .The results are tested in MATLABR 2017a by using IEEE standard 33 bus distribution system and, IEEE standard 69 bus distribution systems Results shows that the proposed method is effective
