PRECEDENT FEATURES OF FEMININE CULTURAL TYPE “PRIVATE DETECTIVE”

The article is an actual research carried out within the theory of cultural types, the theory of precedent and discourse analysis. The study subject is the professional cultural type “private detective” characterized by behavioral stereotypes typical for the corresponding linguoculture. Wide recognition, typicality and precedent are the significant features of the cultural type. In the English language consciousness, the cultural type “private detective” is realized through two genders: masculine and feminine. The corresponding artistic images served as the formation basis for them. Applying the method of continuous sampling, semantic analysis, methods of discourse and contextual analysis the article focuses on precedent features of the feminine cultural type “private detective” represented by miss Marple – a fictional private amateur-detective of the English writer Agatha Christie, the representative of the “Golden age” detective (1920–1949). The article considers the precedent phenomena by means of which the precedent features of the analyzed type are actualized: a precedent name, a precedent text, a precedent situation, a precedent statement. To conduct a comprehensive research an additional construct was introduced – the precedent detective methods. The analysis of English detective discourse resulted in the conclusion that the feminine cultural type “private detective” with miss Marple as the model is a precedent type as the main cognitive features of the basic artistic image are verbalized in fictional characters of the detective novels of later periods.
