Abstract

Thе research is carried out within the framework of the theory of cultural types and theory of discourse. Description of cultural types aims at identification of the certain behavioral stereotypes that determine the specificity of linguoculture. The formation of cultural types can be based on prototypical images related to reality, quasi-reality or fiction. The article focuses on the dynamic aspect of the main cognitive features of the feminine culture type “private detective” represented by the artistic characters of the English detective discourse of Agatha Christie, Patricia Wentworth, Josephine Tay, Dorothy Sayers, Phyllis James, Phil Rickman, etc. The evolution of the English gender detective discourse includes three historical periods: Victorian Era detective (1860-1920), Golden Age detective (1920 -1949), Hard-boiled detective (1940-1980), contemporary detective (c 1980). At each stage we analyze the basic characteristics of the fictitious feminine private detectives which make up the cognitive core of the gender culture type “private detective” of the corresponding period. The socio-economic and political situation of a certain period contributed to the emergence of new or disappearance of existing signs of feminine culture type “private detective”. The analysis of practical material resulted in that the dynamic aspect of cognitive features of the feminine subspecies of the type investigated is due to the phased stratification of the base elements with their realization in modern fictitious images
