Abstract

The article studies the essence of several complex multidisciplinary models of recipient's perception abilities as regards re-objectivization of humor overtones of meaning hierarchy. The leading models and a number of alternative approaches to humor in linguistic studies undergo critical analysis and comparison. The role of cognitive perception aspect in the field of studies under consideration is defined, as well as the relevance of humor overtones in shaping the new meaning of the utterance. A complex phenomenon of humor components in meaning hierarchy is analyzed from different angles: metaphoric and metonymic expression, as well as concept integration of mental spaces and grammar constructions of implicit sense generation. Semantic foundations of Semantic Script-based Theory of Humor, which display coherent correlation with General Theory of Verbal Humor, prove to be a prototype of a complex analytical model pertinent both in linguistics and other fields of Humanities (literature studies, psychology, sociology). A complex method of bottom-up analysis of different types of humor overtones expression (obligatory re-interpretation of jokes and puns) presupposes re-objectivization of meaning hierarchy at several language levels. The analysis shows that standard linguistic mechanisms can be applied in the process of de-automatization in the considered hedonistic function. Reactivation of a prototypic mental image without actualization of formal perception due to thematic extension appears to be the most efficient way of expressing the overtones in question
