Abstract

The problem of the relationship between meaning and sense is concretized in our study to the relationship between derivational meaning and sense in a literary text. Reflection is carried out from the standpoint of various scientific paradigms, but the author's own vision of the problem within the framework of cognitive linguistics is also proposed. The concept of “derivational meaning” as a unit of mental information containing certain structures of knowledge is selected by the author as the point of reference. Word-forming means that objectify derivational meanings are distinguished: morphemes, morphemic paradigms, morphemic semantic fields, derived lexemes, derivational text paradigms, derivational models etc. The role of derivational meanings in the formation of the conceptual space of the text is shown. The concept of “aesthetic marking of the word-forming unit”, including morphemes, is defined. A typology of knowledge behind derivational meanings is presented. Since representation of knowledge in a language is a problem that cannot be fully resolved, the problem of objectifying knowledge structures with word-formative means in a literary text is becoming important. A solution to the problem of textual motivation as a factor in the formation of text sense, including the aesthetic one, is proposed. Specific examples show the functioning of derivational means in the process of formation of aesthetically significant senses. Cognitive mechanisms for the formation of derivational meanings are revealed, as well as the language tools for their actualization. Particular attention is focused on the influence of extralinguistic factors on the formation of derivational senses. At the same time, the text is interpreted as a special discursive medium interacting with linguistic means, including the derivational ones. Interaction of derivational senses with other ones in the text is traced. Thus, the problem of relationship between meaning and sense is solved as a complex one in the process of its comprehension, along with a number of other problems of perception and understanding of a text
