Abstract
Future performance of the highway pavement is essential to be predicted so as to anticipate the maintenance strategy and optimum pavement network management for the North-South Expressway (NSE) in Malaysia. Current pavement performance models used in pavement management systems are based on models developed elsewhere, which are likely not reflective of the Malaysian conditions. Therefore, the objective of this research is to develop a pavement performance model for rutting, based on local data. Data was collected from selected sections of the NSE which include roughness, traffic loading, pavement strength and rutting. Data was then analyzed to develop the rutting model. Two different rutting models were developed for the Northbound and Southbound traffic and the model was then validated. As the models developed are more representative of the local conditions, it is recommended that they are used to predict rutting performance for the NSE.
