Abstract
The point of this study is to present an environmental, cheap and sustainable cement mortar nano-sized mineral admixture. Also, this work aims to investigate the fresh, mechanical and rheological properties of cement mortars fabricated with green synthesized nano-silica (GSNS) as a mineral admixture. GSNS prepared using Sol-gel method and having a spherical shape with a diameter ranging from 30 to 100 nm, and surface area equals to 106.4 m2 /g. Different ratios of GSNS (0% as a control, 4%, 8% and 12%) added to mortar mixes by weight of cement. Flow table test used to control the consistency of fresh mortars, while compressive and flexural strengths of hardened mortars measured using standard cement cubes and prisms respectively. Otherwise, XRD, TEM, and SEM were used to understand the rheological and microstructure of mortars. The result shows that using GSNS as a mineral admixture of cement enhancing the mechanical and morphological properties of cement mortars, otherwise it has a slight effect on decreasing the consistency of fresh mortars.
