Abstract

In the recent years, the expectation of human being has increased manifold for speedy and accurate delivery of information in the form of text, image, audio and videos. Digital filters with one dimensional, two dimensional and, three dimensional inputs are generally used for processing and provide desired signal, image and videos respectively. This has forced the scientist, engineers and researchers for designing the digital signal processing systems with improvised, proficient and intelligent techniques using the emerging modern tools and technology. A large number of researches have been proposed for digital filter design. In this review paper, a comprehensive review and analysis of various digital filter designs are carried out. More specifically, Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter design issues, challenges, evolutionary optimization based techniques including nature inspired Swarm Intelligence (SI) based optimization techniques are reviewed. It is found that in present era there has been a shift in research from 1D filters to 2D filters because 53.4.% publications are related to 2D inputs filters whereas only 44.6% research work are related to 1D input filters
