Abstract
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a territorial rights offered by the government to an inventor for the protection of its intellectual ideas and creativity. In simple words IPR can be formulated as; Intellectual Creation + Protection = Intellectual Property Rights. There are five basic types of intellectual property rights via patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indicators and (NPV) new plant varieties. This paper mainly focuses on patents and its significance from the Indian patenting perspective. We have discussed three case studies in support of the patenting significance and explained a couple of examples to better understand the definition of patent
