Abstract
Human beings are using medicinal plants for curing diseases since time immemorial. Plant parts like root, rhizome, leaves, fruit, or seed, and their extracts are used to treat a variety of ailments. Similarly, ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe, family Zingiberaceae) is also used as a remedy for controlling diseases like gastrointestinal disorders, analgesic, antidiabetic, cardiovascular, anticancer, larvicidal, and antiallergic problems. This review focuses on ethnomedicinal uses, cultivation, constituents, and pharmacological potentials and also shows macro-micro characteristics for authentication of the plant. This plant is used in enormous quantities by the people so the conservationists and even farmers should cultivate it to fulfill the requirement of not only the public but also pharmaceutical industries.
