Abstract
The issues of providing state social assistance based on the targeted principle are investigated. State social assistance is a measure of state support for its citizens, which is provided to a wide range of recipients on the basis of categorical affiliation, which does not contribute to strengthening the mechanisms for fighting poverty and the effective distribution of state budget funds. It is assumed that the implementation of the principle of targeting in the provision of social benefits should result in increasing motivation of citizens to work in order to independently ensure their personal well-being, which directly affects the improvement of their quality of life.
