Abstract
This article deals with a specific type of newspaper periodicals - a mass-circulation press published on the territory of modern Ukraine from 1917 to 1997. It is characterized as a phenomenon of the Soviet era as the period of its existence coincides withthe Soviet period of Ukrainian history. The mass-circulation press likewise the entire Soviet press properly performed its main functions, in particular agitational, propagandistic,organizational, as well as informative, instructional, educational, entertaining, regulatory. V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine has a large collection of mass-circulation newspapers of plants, factories, mines, transport institutions, educational establishments of various levels, foundations, collective farms, state farms, machine and tractor stations, etc. This array of periodicals needs to be studied, processed and introduced into the media scene.
