Abstract
The article covers the history of homonymy study in Uzbek linguistics. The opinions of experts on homonymous words are summarized and analyzed. In the linguistic literature, there are conflicting opinions on the role of homonymy in language and speech, and the need to study all the manifestations of homonymy in most of them is emphasized. At the same time, homonyms were recognized in the language as a phenomenon that existed since ancient times.
