Abstract

This study identifies the implications of Russian military intervention in Syrian crisis on the regional balance of power and on world order as a whole, as Russia is trying to play an influential role in parallel to the American role in the Middle East region. The study relied on systematic integration to achieve its objectives and to provide deep understanding and analysis to the Russian role in Syria. As such, the study depends on the systems analysis approach and the neoclassical realism and constructivism in addition to perceptions of the policy makers and decision making approach. The study concluded that the crisis got regional and international dimensions which contributed to revive and show the importance of the Russian role as a great country in the world order that characterized by the US hegemony particularly in the Arab region after the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001 and 2003 respectively which provides strong motivation for Russia to intervene in Syria militarily to weaken the American absolute domination on the Syrian crisis. As a result, the regional and international dimensions of the Syrian crisis have contributed to achieve some or part of the Russian objectives towards creating a multipolar world.
