Abstract

Many failure processes are common between the different forms of instability in the formations of the Dorsale calcaire of the Bokoya massif. For example, the complex slide of Cala Bonita and the slide of Sikha Asfalo show a strong similarity in the mechanisms of movement and the forms of instability. The analysis of the structural and tectonic characteristics of this massif explains the shearing processes that cause these gravitational deformations. The inherent predisposition to structural and tectonic contexts (dip of layers and fault planes), guides and determines the nature and the form of movement. Furthermore, the fragmentation of the rock and the basal sapping due to the sea action and the seismic activity are the main responsible for the triggering of these of ground instability phenomena.
