Abstract

The aim of this case report was to give information about histopathological diagnosis, operative process and postoperative process of facial subcutaneous leiomyosarcoma in a cat. A 3-year-old chinchilla breed female cat was brought to our clinic with a complaint of a nut-sized mass under the right ear in the head area. A clinical examination of the case found a mass under the right ear with a diameter of about 2.5 cm, elastic consistency, hemorrhagic foci in places. In the postoperative follow-up of the case, it was found that recurrence was observed approximately in the 4th month, but the general condition of the cat was good and had kittens. The sections prepared from the tissue samples were dyed with hematoxylene-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining technique. Histopathological examinations showed atypical muscle cells in the form of oval or spindle shaped novelties that made bands or vortices that gave arms in various directions. In Masson's trichrome painting, it was noted that these cells were painted red. As a result of all these assessments, the mass was histomorphologically identified as leiomyosarcoma. This presentation shows that leiomyosarcoma can be seen in cats, although rare, and cases may relapse in the postoperative period.
