Abstract

Anita Desai is an artful shilpi carving the characters instilled with real, emotional, natural and lively traits in them. The traits of her characters in the books exhibit her thorough study and understanding of the thoughts flowing in the minds of humans under various circumstances. She highlights the pain and suffering of the women that result in the mark caused by the torment of various members in the family and the society. Married women are chained and shouldered by all heavy responsibilities throughout her life. Women plan and work for the welfare of the family without any relaxation and rest. Their unconditional love, uncompromised care, unpolluted affection makes them pull the family chariot without any turbulence. The happy journey of a family starts from the embrace of a woman who is an elegant wife, caring mom, humble daughter-in-law discharging all her duties. The successful journey of a family is due to the great magical mom. She projects the inner conflicts of the women protagonist fighting against the odds. She beautifully portrays the role of tricky cunning tie of the fate in marriage of the humans. She knits the stories of the noble women in the cruel hands of mismatched husbands in a realistic way. Her stories not only reflect the wounds of the women but also her search for solutions through her stories.
