Power Optimization Using Cycloconverter through IGBT

Abstract
This paper is going to discuss about control the speed of induction motor in three steps by using cycloconverter through IGBT. Induction motors used in many domestic appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, water pumps, and others. The difficulty of varying the speed of induction motor is one of the main disadvantages, because the AC supply frequency cannot be changed. The induction motor speed control in two ways, one is by changing the number of poles and second one is by changing the supply frequency. In first method, the number of poles cannot be change in running condition because the machine size also becomes bulky. This problem can conquer by control the supply frequency. Cycloconverter is power electronics device used for renovate constant AC frequency into variable AC frequency. Induction motors drawback is overcome by using cycloconverter. The status of the Switches enables the microcontroller to deliver the pulses to trigger the IGBT in a bridge. Thus, the speed of the induction motor can be achieved in three steps i. e. (f, f/2 and f/3).
