Abstract

The problem of corrosion of some of the reinforced concrete structures has come to the fore front in recent years. Civil engineering structures including transmission line towers, especially the foundations, located in coastal areas are witnessing early deterioration due to corrosion. In this article, literatures dealing with the rehabilitation measures transmission line towers against corrosion have been reviewed. Performance of nano penetrant coatings and a new protective measure against crevice corrosion in the stub angle/ coping concrete interface upon a model transmission line tower has been investigated and discussed. This new protective measure, named as woring has been introduced in the stub angle / coping concrete interface and its performance has been investigated. Performance of sacrificial anode and other coatings against corrosion also have been investigated and a comprehensive approach to improve the durability of transmission line tower foundations has been recommended against corrosion of embedded parts of transmission line tower.
