Abstract
Surgeons have always endeavored to treat surgical sites atraumatically. The extent to which this goal coud be accoumplished, however was often defined by the limits of normal visual acuity. Optical magnification has therefore broadened the horizons of dentistry in general and periodontcs in particular. The purpose of this article is to throw light on the different magnification systems, parts of surgical microscope, potential application and benefits of microsurgery in periodontics.
