The article is about P.M. Olkhin ? the graduate of Medical-Surgical Academy, one of the founders and the first editors of the “Round the world” journal and other editions. His outstanding role in development of the photo in Russia is described. P.M. Olkhin was the member of Frebelev society, made a big contribution to the problems of the organization of useful children's leisure, training of children in reading and writing, skills of craft. P.M. Olkhin is the organizer of the first courses of stenography in St. Petersburg. His friendly relations with the composer and the chemist A.P. Borodin are described.
