Abstract
Cost prediction is the process of estimating the effort required to develop a software system. Cost prediction is an important part of software development. Now days, software is the most expensive component of computer system. This paper provides a general overview of software cost estimation methods including the recent advances in the respective field. Algorithmic models such as SLOC, function point size estimation and COCOM model. Non-Algorithmic models such as analogy and expert judgment. Machine learning methods such as artificial neural networks and their techniques and fuzzy logic. This paper highlights the cost estimation models that have been proposed and used successfully and their comparison and applications.
