Abstract
As it is known in the Ottoman Empire, the provisions of Islamic law were applied in the field of private law from its establishment until its end. Even though customary regulations were made in the field of family law from time to time, these regulations made by the state remained very limited. In this study, it is aimed to reach concrete data on family law in Konya at the beginning of the 18th century, based on some sample cases and documents that we have selected from the sheriya registry number 42 in Konya. Within the scope of the reseach, the provisions in the sheriya books belonging to the years 1705-1707 were examined under the titles of engagement, marriage, divorce and alimony according to their subjects. While determining who applied to the court for what reasons in cases related to family law, some concrete data were obtained on the procedures applied in case of breach of the engagement, how often the marriage procedure was recorded in the registry, the use of puberty, the termination of marrige with allegiance and muhâlea and alimony request.
