Abstract
Induction motors are considered as the workhorses of the industries. They are widely used in the industries owing to their many advantages such as robust in construction, low-cost, low maintenance and ability to perform in polluted environments. However, they have inherently low power factor, which is their main disadvantage. Several methods are proposed by researchers to improve power factor. This paper studies various methods for improving the induction motor drive power factor. One of the methods called as Hysteresis band current control (HBCC) is also discussed which improves the input power factor using Hysteresis band which compares the phase of the stator current of each phase with the input reference current which is produced in-phase with supply voltage.
