English and Uzbek textbooks and their analogies

Before the Basic Education Textbook Development Project (the BETDP), textbooks were outdated, unattractively designed, and did not meet the emerging needs of a transitional economy, reducing learning achievements. The textbook production system followed a central planning approach that was neither efficient nor cost-effective. In 1995, the Government had decided to change from Cyrillic to Latin script, requiring the comprehensive rewriting and reprinting of all textbooks.
