Abstract
In February 2020, Chinese scientists isolated SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The disease is characterized by respiratory symptoms ranging from mild to potentially lethal manifestations requiring intensive care, in addition to laboratory findings consistent with immune system dysregulation. Studies have shown that among the risk factors, advanced age is impacting for the increase in mortality from COVID-19. This paper is an integrative review that sought to collect data available in the literature that describe the manifestation of the disease in the elderly person's body. Therefore, it was observed that COVID-19 worsens in association with comorbidities and physiological changes in senescence, such as the dysregulation of the immune system and the loss of organic adaptive capacities, predisposing a higher risk of worsening the condition of these patients
