Abstract

Continuous increase of competitive pressure, shortening of technologies' life cycle, the emergence of new products and services, aggressive interference of IT into the organizations operation and development mechanism, encourages business structures to permanently redesign existing business processes and their managing approaches through reengineering. The purpose of the article is to study the content and role of reengineering in improving the activities and enterprise management processes, to determine its place among methods of improving business and to ground the feasibility of using different reengineering methods, depending on the types and stages of the crisis phenomena development at the enterprise. Existing approaches of improving business processes are divided into 2 groups: gradual and fundamental. Reengineering refers to fundamental methods of changing the way of doing business, which enables business entities not only to win in the competitive struggle, but also to confront crisis phenomena. The evolution of BPR understanding from the «clean sheet» technology to the modern understanding, which involves the preservation of rational existing business processes or their elements and their integration into a new business structure has been revealed. The subjects of reengineering have been characterized: that can be an enterprise at different life cycle stages, as well as individual business processes. The scientific novelty of the article is to determine the dependence of the BPR type or method from the crisis stage at the enterprise. The practical value of the results of the study is that timely detection of problem sources and identification of the crisis stage makes possible to choose the right option for improving business processes - current optimization or radical redesign, that is, BPR. Prospects for further research in this area are the formation of feasibility indicators of introducing individual business processes reengineering at local crisis, as well as indicators for estimation of its implementation effectiveness.
