The formation of the professional competence of the future foreign language teacher in the course of latin language study

Abstract

The didactic conditions that contribute to the formation of the professional competence of the future foreign language teacher in the course of Latin language study have been clarified in the article. The aim of the article is to find out the didactic conditions, which contribute to the formation of the professional competence of a future foreign language teacher in in the course of Latin language study. Since the discipline "Latin language" is a practical course, we consider it is appropriate to pay considerable attention in the article to different types of practical tasks as well as to those for students' independent work. The performing of various exercises, in our opinion, will contribute to a more active process of the future philologists' professional competence formation. In the course of the classroom and the independent work, the delivery of the material in specially organised blocks will promote better acquisition of it. The maturity level of the students' professional competence can be increased by creating the structured training package on Latin language, which implies a linguo-didactic component in all types of student learning activities. The special structuring of the training material presupposes the restoration of ties and relationships, including those among disciplines. The progress in learning of basic teaching material is based on ranking. The main requirements for the system of tasks are the gradual increase in complexity, variability, differentiation, continuity. An important component in the process of the Latin language mastering by the future foreign language students is the independent and individual work. One of the types of extracurricular work is the study of the vocabulary of Latin origin in Ukrainian and Western European languages by using periodicals. The performing of such a task presupposes the usage of skills formed during the learning process, contributes to the better acquisition and enrichment of lexical material, the formation of intellectual, along with the acquisition of research and experimental skills promotes students' cognitive activity. The maturity level of the students' professional competence can be increased if the following didactic conditions are observed: the awareness of the need to further improve the knowledge acquired by students - future foreign language teachers, intensification of their cognitive activity, the structuring of Latin language course material and providing of interdisciplinary ties, the grammatical and linguistic texts analysis skills formation, the importance of students' independent work.
