Abstract
Democratization applies to all strata of the population and various spheres of activity of Ukrainian citizens, and therefore it did leave out education. Student community reacts first to dynamic changes in society. Student community is an indicator of social and political processes in our state, which gives students the opportunity to more effectively influence on social life. Today, in higher education institutions of Ukraine, there are various student associations that represent the interests of students and promote the socialization of the individual. The purpose of the article is to analyze the role of student self-government in informing the social activity of students. Higher education carries out both direct and socialization. In this way, the higher education contributes to the formation of the cognitive component of socialization. An important factor in the socialization of a person is the development of his social activity, which manifests itself in the behavior of the individual and his activities. Student self-government provides wide opportunities for self-realization of a personality in various spheres: organizational, public, scientific, charitable, agitational and informational ones. The author believes that the structure of social activity includes the following components: motivational, value, emotional-volitional, cognitive-reflexive, and activity ones. Immediate demonstrations of social activity in student self-government are realized through its activity component. The criteria for the activity component are: the number of implemented social projects, the position in the bodies of student self-government or the desire to occupy a certain position or perform certain responsibilities in their own institution of higher education, the degree of participation in various areas of social activity within the higher education.
