Abstract

The article is dedicated to study the components of psychological readiness to marriage and its individual components. Through empirical studies the important components of marriage creation were determined. They are: positive communication setup, ability to compromise, respect and adequate self-esteem. Value orientations among married are: happy family life, health, love, self-confidence, availability of good and loyal friends. Among unmarried prevailing value orientations are: happy family life, health, love and freedom as independence in behavior and actions, high living standards and secure life, the existence of good and loyal friends, self-confidence. The results of the correlation studies have shown that respondents prefer the leading part of a man in a family. This increases the desire to receive from a partner the expected, even traditional attitude. It was also found that increasing of self-identification with a marriage partner, effects the desire of the respondent to achieve a compromise solution in various life aspects of the family. For unmarried young people it is common that self-representation is endowed by such features as: communicative skills, beauty, looseness, romance, fun, etc., at the time when married are characterized by higher marital characteristics such as: responsibility, patience, attentiveness, reliability, thrift. The discrepancy between the real self-representations and self-representation in the role of husband (wife) is identified. Difficulty or delay in marriage may arise from the reluctance to change oneself. The mismatch between the image of a desirable spouse and qualities of friends from which in general the spouse is selected is revealed. The analysis of the pre-marriage concepts also showed the mismatch between the perception of qualities, which should be inherent in the desired communication partner and characteristics of the future (desired) spouse as a person. Unmarried students differ in the degree of compliance with images of perfect friend and perfect spouse. Inconsistency of these pre-marriage ideas and images can cause further confusion and create family conflict and mental stress after marrige.
